The Anne Story
Let us tell you about Anne.
Anne, blind since birth, is thirty years old, and works as an Internet Developer.
She is interested in fashion and visits a gym twice a week. Although Anne is single, she dates a guy of the same age who has normal sight. They share the same interest in fair trade, and prefer to buy products that fulfil these criteria whenever possible.
Sitting in front of her computer, the first thing Anne does is log onto Siteless.se. This website has become her second home and Anne loves to surf. She is searching for a new pair of jeans that a friend of hers has recommended.
Siteless.se makes it easy for Anne to find what she is looking for. She simply "tabs" herself between the headlines, and she is led to the page she is looking for. Her computer has no need for a screen, everything is presented to her through speech synthesis! In other words – Anne is listening to Internet!
With a few quick taps on the keyboard, Anne easily finds her way to the shopping section of Siteless.se. With its simple format, navigating is always the same regardless of what she wants to do. Anne is already familiar with speech synthesis so it is easy for her to find her way around.
By tabbing first to ladies wear and then to the headline ‘jeans’, she quickly finds the model her friend recommended. Speech synthesis describes the product to her - these jeans are low cut, somewhat tight, blue denim. Besides this standard information, Anne also wants to know if they are 100% cotton, and washing instructions. Her boyfriend asks if she can find out where they are produced and the company’s environmental policy. This information is no more than few clicks away. She selects her size and completes the transaction using her credit card.
After her visit to the cyber clothing store, Anne continues to a travel agency page and books a trip to India for herself and her boyfriend. She follows this with a quick visit to a pharmacy to order motion-sickness pills and sun block, and checks the airline for rules regarding hand luggage. Anne then goes to the Indian Embassy page to fill in the forms for their tourist visas.
One of Anne’s friends has sent her an email with a recipe. Anne navigates to Marks & Spencer’s food market and orders pork fillet, cream, vegetables and a few household products.
Before logging out, Anne replies to a question from a relative who wants some suggestions for a hotel in town.
In all, Anne has spent a couple of hours on Siteless.se and has managed to do everything she wanted to do, without any effort. All the goods she ordered will be delivered to her home address. Internet technology and Siteless.se have simplified her life. This sense of independence gives her tremendous satisfaction.
